Jenoseel is ideal for protecting metal gates, garage doors, car chassis, girders / RSJ's - Anything metal. It is a high quality rust stabiliser so will also cure any current rust and will continue to for many years to come, further protecting from the inside out. It has a built in red oxide primer, is top coat paintable with Re-Paint ACE and Jenolite.
It is important to point out that Jenoseel is a completely different product to Jenolite. Jenoseel is based on a resin which has excellent weathering and chemical resistance in itself. Jenoseel is a rust stabilising paint that dries matt red. Jenolite however is a rust treatment that should be used to treat rust before the application of Jenoseel or Re-Paint ACE primer.
Jenoseel has a very fast cure, this means that two coats of Jenoseel can be applied in less than 30 minutes, when it will then be tough enough to withstand even heavy rain.
Below is a selection of the most common questions that we are asked about Jenoseel, but please contact us for further information.
How do I prepare a rusty surface? As Jenoseel actually uses rust, it does not need such a high degree of preparation as conventional products. Jenolite can be used to treat rust at this stage. Thoroughly scrape to remove all heavy build-up of rust. Chip or needle gun around bolt heads etc. Grinding is not recommended as this can polish. Wire brush or rub down to finish. After preparation and cleaning, ‘peaks’ should show white metal.
Do I need to shot blast? Very rarely. Only if the structure is badly corroded, when blasting may be quicker than hand preparation. If blasting, SA2 standard is adequate for Jenoseel.
Can Jenoseel be used to protect new metal? Yes, prevention is better than cure. If you have new metal it is advisable to protect it as soon as possible.
Is Jenoseel able to be used with Jenolite? Yes, if you treat with Jenolite first and then used Jenoseel as further protection or as your primer coat for example.
I am not sure if I should use Jenoseel or Re-Paint ACE primers? This is your choice, both have rust inhabitors and are made for protecting against rust. Some customers decide to use Jenolite first to remove rust, then Jenoseel, after this they apply Re-Paint ACE primer, followed by the final Re-Paint ACE enamel colour topcoat for ultimate protection.
Would Jenoseel be a good product for treating the bottom/chassis of my 4x4 off road vehicle? Yes, Jenoseel would be ideal in this situation.
Can Jenoseel be applied over thick rust? Not advisable, whilst Jenoseel actually uses rust, for long-term protection prepare as above. With virtually all products you should remove excess rust, dirt and grease
How is Jenoseel applied? Very easily, stir thoroughly and apply by brush or roller.
Can Jenoseel be sprayed? Not recommended. Jenoseel is designed to penetrate into rust and spraying can tend to cause a ‘lay on’ effect . Brush and/or roller is the best form of application.
What is the coverage? Depending on profile and absorbancy of surface, average 8-10 M2/Litre. Upto 13m2 per litre!
How many coats? Two are recommended.
Why? Just one coat of any product may mean that the ‘peaks’ are not adequately covered.
How long between coats of Jenoseel? 10-15 minutes only, 1 hour maximum, given good airflow.
How do I clean my brushes? Use Re-Paint ACE thinners. For small areas, using disposable brushes may be an option, but always beware of very cheap brushes as they can leave bristles in your paint job!
What top coats can I use? Jenoseel may be over coated with Re-Paint ACE Primers & paints for a perfect finish with long lasting protection and a professional finish.
How long does Jenoseel last? Depends on situation, thoroughness of preparation, top coats etc. Because Jenoseel stabilises existing rust and actively fights future corrosion, a Jenoseel system will give longest possible life in most situations. Typical external structures 10-20 years to first major maintenance.

What is Jenoseel? Jenoseel is a unique 'active' rust stabilising metal primer that gives longest possible protection against rust to both new and rusty steel. Based on an active pigment, Jenoseel actually uses rust, converting it into an inert barrier all over the surface to be protected. With its unique active capability, Jenoseel will combat rust that tries to develop in service, even after many years. Surface preparation is thus simplified, only needing the removal of loose rust and dirt. Shot blasting is not usually necessary.
Has Jenoseel been used on any major projects? Jenoseel has been used to preserve The Royal Britannia Yacht, Swanley Bridge, MEB electrics and the EURO Mars module that are subject to conditions where temperatures go down to -140 degrees C.
Is Jenolite & Jenoseel the same thing? No, they are 2 different products with two different trademarks. They both have different qualities and uses, but are both excellent products and leading brand names for rust solutions.
Do the Re-Paint ACE primers and Etch Primers you sell have rust inhabitors in them? Yes, both the Re-Paint ACE and Etch Primers have excellent adhesion and rust protection factors - They are all high specification primers.
