Is a rusty radiator dangerous?

Surface rust is usually cosmetic and not immediately dangerous. However, untreated corrosion can worsen over time and eventually affect the radiator's condition.

Can rust spread on a radiator?

Yes. If left untreated, rust can continue spreading beneath damaged paint and cause further deterioration.

Should I replace a rusty radiator?

Not necessarily. Most radiators with surface rust can be successfully restored using the correct rust treatment and radiator paint.

What is the best rust remover for radiators?

A specialist rust remover designed for metal restoration, such as Jenolite Thick Liquid Rust Remover, is ideal for treating radiator corrosion.

Can I paint over rust on a radiator?

No. Rust should be removed and treated before painting to ensure a durable, long-lasting finish.

How long does radiator paint last?

When applied correctly to a properly prepared surface, radiator paint can provide years of protection and decoration.

Can cast iron radiators be restored?

Yes. Cast iron radiators are often excellent candidates for restoration and can frequently be returned to near-original condition.

Restore Your Radiator the Easy Way

Most rusty radiators don't need replacing. With the right preparation, rust treatment and specialist paint, you can remove corrosion, restore appearance and protect your radiator for years to come.

The Jenolite Radiator Restoration Kit combines a Wire Brush, 150ml Jenolite Thick Liquid Rust Remover and 2 x 500ml Jenolite Radiator Paint in one convenient package—providing everything needed to restore, repaint and protect rusty radiators from start to finish.

How to Use

1. Prepare the Surface

Switch off the radiator and allow it to cool completely. Use the included wire brush to remove loose rust, flaking paint and surface debris.

2. Remove Rust

Apply Jenolite Thick Liquid Rust Remover to affected areas following the product instructions. Once complete, wipe the surface clean and allow it to dry thoroughly.

3. Apply Radiator Paint

Shake the can well before use. Hold approximately 15–30cm (6–12 inches) from the surface and apply using smooth, even strokes. Always apply light coats rather than one heavy coat to avoid runs and drips.

4. Apply Additional Coats

Apply 2–3 light coats for best results, allowing 15–30 minutes between coats depending on temperature and humidity.

5. Allow to Cure

Leave the paint to dry fully before turning the heating back on. Allow at least 24 hours before use for a durable, professional-looking finish.
