1. What is JENOLITE Universal Etch Primer used for?
This self-etching primer is specially formulated to improve paint adhesion on difficult surfaces, including metals, plastics, and previously painted areas. It creates a smooth, topcoat-ready surface and ensures long-lasting paint finishes.
2. Which surfaces can it be applied to?
Suitable for a wide range of surfaces, including:
- Metals: Aluminium, galvanised steel, stainless steel, brass, and iron.
- Plastics: Rigid, fully cured plastics.
- Painted surfaces: Can be used over fully cured topcoats to aid adhesion of new paint layers.
3. What colour finish does it leave?
Leaves a smooth grey surface that is ideal for overpainting with your choice of topcoat.
4. How do I prepare the surface before applying the primer?
- Remove all oil, grease, and dirt using a suitable degreaser.
- Remove loose paint or rust with steel wool or a wire brush.
- Ensure the surface is clean and dry before spraying.
5. How should I apply the primer?
- Shake the can well until the agitator ball rattles freely.
- Spray in smooth, even strokes from 15–30 cm away.
- Apply a thin, even coat, building up as needed.
6. How long does it take to dry?
- Touch dry between coats: 30 minutes.
- Fully cured: 24 hours before applying a topcoat.
7. How many coats do I need?
Typically, one coat is sufficient. Additional coats can be applied if a smoother or thicker layer is desired, allowing 30 minutes drying time between coats.
8. Is this primer suitable for DIY use?
Yes. The aerosol format allows easy, precise application for both DIY enthusiasts and professionals, giving a smooth, even finish on complex surfaces.
9. Can it be used outdoors?
The primer is weather-resistant once cured, but it should be topcoated with suitable paint for long-term outdoor durability.
10. What temperature is ideal for application?
Best applied at 10°C to 25°C. Avoid extremes of heat or cold as this can affect drying and curing.
11. How should I store the primer?
- Store in a cool, well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight.
- Keep below 50°C to prevent damage.
- Invert the can and spray for 2 seconds after use to prevent nozzle blockages.
